What Is a DIN 186 T-Heads With Square Neck
Anti-rotation T-head bolts solve the same problem in two different ways. DIN 188 does it with two small nips that bite into the slot flanks at two contact points. DIN 186 takes a different approach — the round shank immediately beneath the T-head is machined into a square section sized to match the T-slot width, so the anti-rotation load is carried across four flat faces bearing directly against the slot walls, rather than two localized points.
That full-face contact spreads the reaction load over a larger area, which can matter for heavier clamping forces or slots that see more wear over repeated use — a nip can eventually deform or wear down at its two contact points, while a square neck’s bearing area stays distributed. The trade-off is a slightly more involved machining process and a shank that must be sized precisely to the slot, rather than the small nip projection used in DIN 188.
