Round Head Rivets

What Is a DIN 124 Round Head Rivet
Before threaded fasteners became universal, riveting was the primary method of joining structural steel, and it remains specified today precisely because a rivet works on a completely different principle than a bolt. DIN 124 defines a solid rivet with a domed manufactured head at one end — often called a snap head or round head — and a plain cylindrical shank that’s inserted through aligned holes in the plates being joined.
The joint is completed by deformation, not threading. The protruding tail is hammered, pressed, or squeezed by a rivet gun until it spreads out into a second, matching head, clamping the plates together with the shank filling the hole completely. Once formed, there’s no thread to loosen, no torque to lose over time, and no vibration-driven backing-off — the joint’s integrity depends on the metal’s own deformed shape rather than a maintained clamping force. That’s exactly why riveted joints remain specified in structures and equipment where a threaded connection’s long-term reliability is a genuine concern.
Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. manufactures DIN 124 round head rivets in-house at our Mumbai facility, under ISO 9001:2015, with full mill test documentation, and exports this range to over 50 countries.
Where DIN 124 Rivets Genuinely Earn Their Place
No Torque to Lose Over Time
The joint’s strength comes from the formed metal shape itself, not a maintained clamping force, so there’s nothing to loosen under vibration.
Fills the Hole Completely
The shank expands to fill the hole during forming, eliminating clearance gaps that a bolted joint can be left with.

DIN 124 Round Head Rivet Dimension & Weight Chart
Standard nominal dimensions and approximate weight by shank diameter — head diameter (dk) and head height (k) determine bearing area, while shank diameter should match your drilled hole size within standard clearance tolerance. Weight is given per 100 pieces at a common reference length; actual weight scales with the length ordered, and length should always include enough material to form the closing head after assembly.
| Shank Dia. (d) | Head Dia. (dk) | Head Height (k) | Typical Length Range | Approx Weight/100pcs (Ref. Length) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 mm | 3.5 mm | 1.2 mm | 4 – 20 mm | ~0.06 kg @ 10mm |
| 3 mm | 5.3 mm | 1.8 mm | 6 – 30 mm | ~0.15 kg @ 14mm |
| 4 mm | 7.0 mm | 2.4 mm | 8 – 40 mm | ~0.32 kg @ 18mm |
| 5 mm | 8.8 mm | 3.0 mm | 10 – 50 mm | ~0.58 kg @ 22mm |
| 6 mm | 10.5 mm | 3.6 mm | 12 – 63 mm | ~0.95 kg @ 28mm |
| 8 mm | 14.0 mm | 4.8 mm | 16 – 80 mm | ~2.05 kg @ 36mm |
| 10 mm | 17.5 mm | 6.0 mm | 20 – 100 mm | ~3.65 kg @ 45mm |
| 12 mm | 21.0 mm | 7.2 mm | 25 – 125 mm | ~5.90 kg @ 56mm |
| 16 mm | 28.0 mm | 9.6 mm | 32 – 160 mm | ~11.80 kg @ 70mm |
