T Head Bolts
Why “Tight” Genuinely Isn’t the Same as “Located”
A T-head bolt’s head is genuinely shaped and sized to slide along a T-slot channel and then rotate or seat to bear against the slot’s internal ledges, but the slot itself is a continuous channel rather than a single fixed hole, so nothing about the T-head’s shape alone fixes the bolt’s position along the slot’s length.
Here is why this matters. Because the T-slot provides no positive stop along its length, a T-head bolt’s resistance to sliding once clamped genuinely comes entirely from friction between the T-head’s bearing surfaces and the slot’s internal ledges, generated by the clamping force from the nut. This is fundamentally different from a bolt through a drilled hole, which is positively located by the hole itself regardless of clamping force, and it means the workpiece or fixture held down by a T-head bolt can genuinely shift along the slot if cutting forces, shock loads, or vibration exceed the friction the clamping force has generated.
A genuine, honest limitation is worth stating plainly. Because this resistance to sliding is genuinely friction-based rather than a positive mechanical stop, machinists must confirm the clamping torque applied is genuinely sufficient for the actual expected cutting or shock loads of their specific operation, rather than assuming a tight nut alone guarantees the workpiece is positively secured. For operations with significant lateral or shock loading, an additional positive stop, such as a machined stop block against the slot or workpiece edge, should genuinely be used alongside T-head bolt clamping rather than relying on friction alone.
Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. exports to over 50 countries, and our T-head bolt range is manufactured and verified for head dimensions and tensile compliance under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
A Note on Confirming Clamping Torque Against Expected Loads
Please confirm your applied clamping torque is genuinely sufficient for your expected cutting or shock loads — consider an additional positive stop block for significant lateral loading.

Clamping Alone vs Clamping With a Positive Stop — Quick Reference
Confirming whether your setup genuinely relies on clamping friction alone, or includes a positive stop block for lateral or shock load resistance. This table is the quick reference we use with buyers before quoting.
| Aspect | Clamping With Positive Stop | Clamping Alone |
|---|---|---|
| Resistance to Sliding Under Shock | Genuinely reliable | Genuinely friction-dependent only |
| Risk of Workpiece Shift | Genuinely minimized | Genuinely real under high load |
| Suitability for High Cutting Force Operations | Genuinely suited | Genuinely risky without added stop |
