Fully Threaded Stud Bolts
Why Continuous Threading Genuinely Has a Trade-Off
Unlike a stud with an unthreaded shank section, a fully threaded stud has continuous threads along its entire length, genuinely allowing the nut to be positioned anywhere along that length, not fixed to specific thread zones.
Here is why this matters. This continuous threading genuinely allows a single stud length to accommodate varying material stack-up or grip length requirements, since the nut can be run to whatever position matches the actual assembled thickness. This is genuinely valuable when stack heights vary across an installation or aren’t precisely known in advance, avoiding the need for a precisely length-matched stud for every specific grip length.
A genuine, honest limitation is worth stating plainly. Because the entire stud is threaded, there is genuinely no unthreaded, plain shank section. A plain shank has the full nominal diameter available to resist shear across its cross-section, while a threaded section’s effective shear-resisting area is reduced to the smaller thread root diameter wherever a thread root falls at the shear plane. This means a fully threaded stud genuinely has lower shear strength at any given cross-section compared to an equivalent-diameter stud with a plain shank positioned at the shear plane. In applications with significant transverse or shear loading, not purely axial tension, buyers should confirm whether shear resistance at a specific location is a genuine design requirement, since a plain-shank stud may be more appropriate there.
Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. exports to over 50 countries, and our fully threaded stud bolt range is manufactured and verified for thread consistency and mechanical property compliance under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
A Note on Confirming Shear Loading at the Critical Cross-Section
Please confirm whether your application involves significant transverse or shear loading, not purely axial tension, when requesting a quote — a plain-shank stud may be more appropriate at that specific location.

Fully Threaded vs Plain-Shank Stud Bolts — Quick Reference
Confirming whether your application genuinely needs adjustable nut position for varying stack-up, or genuine shear resistance at a fixed cross-section. This table is the quick reference we use with buyers before quoting.
| Aspect | Fully Threaded Stud | Plain-Shank Stud |
|---|---|---|
| Nut Position Flexibility | Genuinely adjustable anywhere on length | Genuinely fixed to threaded end zones |
| Shear Resistance at Cross-Section | Genuinely reduced, root diameter only | Genuinely full nominal diameter |
| Best Fit | Genuinely varying/unknown stack heights | Genuinely fixed grip with shear loading |
