What Is a DIN 125 A Plain Washer
When an engineering drawing or a bill of materials simply calls out “flat washer” or “plain washer” without further qualification, DIN 125 A is very often the default assumption — it’s the standard, non-chamfered form of the close-tolerance plain washer series, and the version most commonly stocked and specified across general engineering. Its defining characteristic is the inner hole clearance: sized snugly against the nominal bolt diameter, closer than the deliberately wider DIN 126 series, which makes it the right choice wherever the bolt hole itself has been machined or drilled to a proper tolerance rather than a coarse clearance fit.
Type A carries no chamfer on the outer edge — a plain, flat-faced disc from edge to edge — as opposed to Type B, which has a light chamfer typically applied on the larger sizes in the range for ease of production. Functionally, the two are equivalent for almost all purposes; Type A remains the more universally recognised and specified of the two.
