UNS C63000 is a nickel-aluminum bronze — copper-based, with roughly 9 to 11% aluminum, 3 to 5.5% iron, and 3.5 to 5.5% nickel, manufactured under ASTM B150, the standard specification for aluminum bronze rod, bar, and shapes. Unlike stainless or nickel alloy fastening, which achieves corrosion resistance through chromium and nickel oxide film formation, aluminum bronze’s resistance comes from a stable aluminum oxide layer that forms on the copper-rich matrix — genuinely different chemistry solving a similar problem.
That different chemistry brings a distinct set of practical advantages. C63000 has mechanical strength that meaningfully exceeds standard bronze and approaches medium-strength alloy steel, while remaining non-magnetic and — critically for certain applications — non-sparking when struck against another metal. It also resists galling and seizing against stainless steel far better than stainless-on-stainless threads do, which is why it remains a preferred choice for fasteners that need to be repeatedly assembled and disassembled in marine or offshore service without threads locking up.
