Titanium Grade 5
Bolt & Nut
Fasteners Manufacturer

Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai — ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer and exporter of Titanium Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) bolts, nuts, studs, and washers to ASTM B348 Grade 5, ASTM F136, and AMS 4928/4967. As the most widely used titanium alloy in the world — accounting for roughly half of all titanium consumption — Grade 5 delivers close to 2.5x the strength of commercially pure Titanium Grade 2 through heat treatment, at the same low weight, making it the standard choice for high-stress aerospace and load-bearing fastening.

What Is Titanium Grade 5 Bolt & Nut (Ti-6Al-4V)

Titanium Grade 5, known by its alloy designation Ti-6Al-4V, is an alpha-beta titanium alloy — unlike commercially pure Grade 2, it contains deliberate alloying additions of aluminium and vanadium that fundamentally change its mechanical behaviour. It’s estimated to account for roughly half of all titanium used worldwide, making it the default choice whenever “titanium” is specified without further qualification in aerospace or high-performance engineering.

Chemical composition (wt%): Aluminium 5.5–6.75, Vanadium 3.5–4.5, Iron ≤0.4 (max), Oxygen ≤0.2 (max), Carbon ≤0.08 (max), Nitrogen ≤0.05 (max), Hydrogen ≤0.015 (max), balance Titanium. The aluminium stabilises the alpha phase and the vanadium stabilises the beta phase, giving the alloy its characteristic two-phase microstructure.

Mechanical properties: minimum tensile strength of 895 MPa (130 ksi) and minimum yield strength of 828 MPa (120 ksi) in the annealed condition — figures that can be pushed still higher through solution treatment and ageing (STA), since unlike Grade 2, Grade 5 is genuinely heat-treatable. Density sits at 4.43 g/cm³, marginally lower than Grade 2 despite the added strength.

Why Buyers Choose Grade 5 Titanium Fasteners

Where Titanium Grade 5 Genuinely Earns Its Cost

Roughly 2.5x the Strength of Grade 2

Minimum tensile strength of 895 MPa versus 345 MPa for commercially pure titanium, at effectively the same density — the reason Grade 5 is specified wherever structural load-bearing capacity actually matters.

Genuinely Heat-Treatable

Solution treatment and ageing (STA) can raise Grade 5’s strength further still — a processing route simply not available with commercially pure Grade 2, which cannot be strengthened this way.

The Standard Aerospace Alloy

Accounting for an estimated half of all titanium used globally, Grade 5 is the alloy engineers reach for by default in airframe, engine, and structural fastening applications.

Load-Bearing Implant Grade

ASTM F136 defines an extra-low-interstitial (ELI) version of Grade 5 for surgical implants, used where an implant must bear real mechanical load beyond what CP titanium is suited for.

The Real Question Buyers Ask

Titanium Grade 5 vs Titanium Grade 2

Most buyers evaluating titanium fasteners aren’t actually choosing between titanium and steel — they’re deciding between Grade 5 and Grade 2. The distinction is straightforward once you separate what each grade is actually built for: Grade 2 is commercially pure titanium, optimised for corrosion resistance, formability, and biocompatibility at moderate strength. Grade 5 is an alloyed, heat-treatable material built for strength first, with corrosion resistance and biocompatibility as a secondary (though still strong) benefit. The comparison below is the one we walk through with buyers before quoting.
