A Genuinely Different Starting Point From Every Standard Shape on This Site

Why a Custom Die Genuinely Preserves More Grain

Every other forged product on our site — flanges, rings, valves, pipe, plate, fittings, disc — is a standard, catalog-recognizable shape, produced against a published industry standard like ASME B16.5 or API 602, using the same general die or process across every customer’s order for that shape. A forged component is genuinely different: it is a custom, non-standard shape produced specifically to an individual customer’s own engineering drawing, a shape that has no equivalent industry standard number at all. The die, or the open-die forging sequence, must be engineered specifically for that one customer’s unique geometry, not reused off a standard catalog.

Here is why this custom die-engineering step matters, distinct from ordering a raw forged disc that the buyer machines themselves. Because we forge the custom near-net shape directly, rather than starting from a plain disc or bar and removing most of the material by machining, a genuinely higher proportion of the customer’s final part geometry is achieved by the forging process itself. Grain flow follows the actual custom contour of your part, not a generic disc shape later cut into your design. This preserves more of the structural benefit forging offers — continuous, contour-following grain — specifically for a shape that doesn’t exist in any catalog, something a raw disc-plus-heavy-machining approach would sacrifice at every surface the machining removes.

A genuine, honest limitation is worth stating plainly. Because a custom die, or a custom open-die forging sequence and fixture set, must be engineered and built specifically for that one part, a genuine non-recurring engineering cost is incurred that a standard flange or ring order never has. This tooling investment is only economical when amortized across a meaningful production quantity, or when the part’s criticality genuinely justifies a one-off custom forging over machining it entirely from bar or plate stock instead. A forged component is not the right choice for a true one-off, low-criticality part, where machining directly from standard bar or plate stock is genuinely faster and cheaper despite the less favorable, non-contour-following grain.

Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. exports to over 50 countries, and our forged component range is engineered and verified for grain flow and dimensional compliance against your own drawing, under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
