Why India Manufactures Stainless Steel Fasteners
India manufactures stainless steel fasteners at genuine global scale, built on a combination that’s difficult to replicate quickly elsewhere: domestic stainless raw material production, a deep base of forging and CNC machining capacity developed over decades, and established shipping infrastructure connecting western Indian ports directly to major markets worldwide. That combination is why Indian-manufactured stainless fasteners appear across such a wide range of industries and countries — the capacity was built through sustained demand, not overnight investment.
What separates a reliable stainless fastener manufacturer from an inconsistent one usually isn’t the material itself — 304 and 316 bar stock is a commodity available to most manufacturers — it’s the discipline applied during machining, passivation, and final inspection. Stainless steel work-hardens readily during machining, and getting thread tolerance and surface finish right consistently across a large batch requires the same quality control rigor as any harder alloy, even though stainless is often treated as the “easy” material by comparison to nickel alloys or titanium.
Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. manufactures its full stainless steel range at our Mumbai facility under ISO 9001:2015, with the same documented quality process applied whether the order is a handful of pieces for a domestic buyer or a full container for export.
Manufacturing Capability You Can Verify
ISO 9001:2015 Certified Process
Every stage of manufacture — from raw material inspection to final dispatch — governed by a documented, audited quality system.
Full Grade Range Under One Roof
304, 316, 316L, 321, and duplex all manufactured in-house rather than sub-contracted piece by piece.
Batch-Level Traceability
Every fastener traceable back to its raw material heat number, with mill test documentation issued for every lot.
Established Export Infrastructure
Regular export shipments through Nhava Sheva (JNPT) to over 50 countries, documented to destination-specific expectations.
Grade Families Explained
Type 304
The general-purpose baseline austenitic grade — good corrosion resistance for most atmospheric and mild chemical exposure at moderate cost.
Type 316 / 316L
Molybdenum-bearing grade for improved chloride and pitting resistance; 316L’s lower carbon content reduces sensitization risk after welding.
Type 321
Titanium-stabilized grade resistant to carbide precipitation, suited to welded assemblies exposed to sustained elevated temperature.
Type 410
Hardenable stainless offering higher strength than austenitic grades, at the cost of reduced corrosion resistance.
Duplex & Super Duplex
Mixed austenitic-ferritic structure delivering higher strength and superior chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance than standard austenitic grades.
17-4 PH
Age-hardenable stainless for applications needing both high strength and reasonable corrosion resistance in one material.
Our Stainless Steel Manufacturing Process
Raw Material Sourcing & Inspection
Stainless bar stock sourced and verified against chemical composition requirements before entering production.
Forging / Machining
Precision machining to maintain dimensional tolerance while managing work-hardening behavior specific to austenitic grades.
Thread Rolling / Cutting
Threading performed to the specified standard (UNC/UNF/Metric) with in-process gauging.
Passivation
Chemical passivation treatment applied to restore and reinforce the protective chromium-oxide surface layer.
Final Inspection & Testing
Dimensional, mechanical, and where required NABL-accredited testing conducted before release.
Documentation & Dispatch
Full MTC, COC, and COO prepared, with shipment arranged through Nhava Sheva to your destination port.
304 vs 316 vs 321 vs Duplex
Most stainless fastener enquiries eventually come down to choosing between these four options. The comparison below is the one we walk through with buyers before quoting, so the grade matches the actual corrosion exposure and load rather than habit.
| Property | Type 304 | Type 316 | Type 321 | Duplex 2205 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UNS Designation | S30400 | S31600 | S32100 | S32205 |
| Key Additive | None — baseline | Molybdenum | Titanium | Higher Cr/Mo, N added |
| Best Suited For | General atmospheric exposure | Chlorides, marine, chemical | Welded, high-temp assemblies | High chloride + high strength |
| Relative Tensile Strength | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate | High — roughly double 316 |
| Relative Cost | Lower | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate-High |
