NAS6603
12-Point Head Bolts

Why a 12-Point Head Genuinely Matters
A standard hex head gives a socket only six flats to grip and needs a full 60-degree swing to re-engage the wrench in a new position — fine in open assembly areas, but genuinely limiting in a cramped aerospace structure where a technician often has only a few degrees of swing room around the bolt head. A 12-point head solves both problems at once: twelve flats give the socket twice as many contact surfaces to distribute torque across, reducing the risk of rounding the head under high installation torque, while needing only a 30-degree swing to re-engage in the next position.
NAS6603 pairs that 12-point head with the same precision-ground shank philosophy behind our MIL-B-857 close tolerance bolts — a near-zero clearance fit into a reamed hole that carries shear load directly through the bolt shank. Many NAS6603 configurations also include a drilled bolt head for safety wire, letting the installed bolt be mechanically secured against back-off under vibration, a detail particularly relevant in high-vibration engine and structural zones.
Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. exports to over 50 countries, and our NAS6603 range is manufactured with precision shank control and head drilling for safety wire, verified by dimensional and shear testing under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
Where This Standard Genuinely Applies
Reduced Rounding Risk at High Torque
Twelve wrenching flats distribute torque more evenly than a six-flat hex, resisting head rounding.
Works in Tight Swing Clearance
Needs only 30° of swing to re-engage, versus 60° for a standard hex head.
Safety Wire Compatible
Drilled head option allows mechanical securing against vibration back-off in critical joints.
Precision Shank for Shear-Critical Joints
Close tolerance shank carries shear load directly, consistent with our broader precision bolt range.
NAS6603 Options Explained
Safety-Wire Drilled Head
Cross-drilled head allowing installation of lockwire to mechanically secure the fastener against back-off.
Standard Undrilled Head
Standard 12-point head without drilling, for locations not requiring safety wire retention.
Alloy Steel / CRES
Heat-treated alloy steel for maximum strength, or corrosion-resistant steel for exposed environments.
12-Point Head vs Standard Hex Head
Confirming the available wrench swing clearance and installation torque determines whether the 12-point head genuinely earns its place. This table is the quick reference we use with buyers before quoting.
| Aspect | NAS6603 12-Point Head | Standard Hex Head |
|---|---|---|
| Wrenching Flats | 12 flats | 6 flats |
| Swing Clearance Needed | 30° | 60° |
| Rounding Risk at High Torque | Lower | Higher |
| Safety Wire Option | Commonly available drilled head | Less common on standard hex |
