Set Screws
Mumbai · India

Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai — ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer and exporter of set screws referenced under US Federal Specification FF-S-92. Set screws are a genuinely distinct fastener class from every other screw type we manufacture — headless by design, they hold two parts together not by clamping under a head, but by driving a hardened point directly against (or into) a mating shaft or bore, most commonly to lock a collar, pulley, or gear in position on a rotating shaft.

Why Set Screws Are a Genuinely Different Fastener

Every other screw class we manufacture holds two parts together through a head bearing down on a surface — a cap screw’s head, a machine screw’s head, even a wood screw’s clamping action. A set screw does something entirely different: it has no head at all, and instead threads fully into a tapped hole in an outer part (like a collar or pulley hub) until its point contacts — and in some cases actually bites into — an inner part like a shaft, transferring holding force through direct point pressure rather than head clamping.

That headless, point-driven design is exactly why set screws exist as their own fastener class — a headed screw simply can’t do this job, since there’s often no clearance around a shaft for a head to sit, and the point-to-shaft contact is the entire mechanism holding the assembly in place against rotation or slippage. Choosing the right point type is the practical decision that actually determines whether the set screw holds securely or lets the assembly slip under load.

Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. exports to over 50 countries, and our set screw range is manufactured across cup, cone, flat, dog, and half-dog point types, verified by hardness and dimensional testing under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.

Why Buyers Specify FF-S-92

Where FF-S-92 Genuinely Applies

Headless Design for Tight Clearance

No head means no clearance issue around rotating shafts, collars, or recessed applications.

Hardened Point for Genuine Holding Force

Case-hardened points resist deformation under the pressure needed to hold securely against a shaft.

Multiple Point Types for Different Duty

Cup, cone, flat, dog, and half-dog points, each suited to different shaft surfaces and holding requirements.

Verified Hardness & Dimensional Accuracy

Batch testing confirms genuine point hardness, not just correct outer thread dimensions.

Point Types We Manufacture

Set Screw Point Type Options

Cup Point

Cup Point Set Screw

Concave tip with a sharp rim that bites lightly into the shaft — the most common general-purpose point type.

Cone Point

Cone Point Set Screw

Sharp conical tip designed to seat into a matching drilled dimple in the shaft for maximum holding force.

Flat Point

Flat Point Set Screw

Flat tip that bears against the shaft surface without marking it — used where the shaft surface must stay undamaged.

Dog Point

Dog Point Set Screw

Cylindrical pilot that fits into a matching hole or slot in the shaft, providing positive axial and rotational location.

Half-Dog Point

Half-Dog Point Set Screw

A shorter dog pilot than the full dog point, for shallower matching holes or slots in the shaft.

Drive Options

Hex Socket / Slotted / Square Head

Internal hex socket, slotted, or square-head drive options depending on tool access and torque requirements.

Matching Point Type to Application

Point Type Selection Guide

The right point type depends on whether the shaft surface can be marked, and whether a matching hole or slot exists. This table is the quick reference we use with buyers before quoting.

Point TypeShaft MarkingTypical Use Case
Cup PointLight markingGeneral-purpose, most common default
Cone PointRequires matching dimpleMaximum holding force with a drilled seat
Flat PointNo markingFinished or hardened shafts, frequent adjustment
Dog PointRequires matching hole/slotPositive axial location, high vibration resistance
