ASTM A194
Grade 8NA
Strain-Hardened Nuts
Why 8NA Stacks Two Strategies Together
Nitrogen alloying and cold working raise strength through genuinely independent mechanisms — nitrogen is a composition-level addition, cold working is a mechanical process applied after annealing, and neither interferes with the other. That’s the same principle behind our Grade 8MA and 8TA pages, where a corrosion-focused composition change (molybdenum, titanium) stacks cleanly with strain hardening. Grade 8NA follows the identical logic, with nitrogen’s strength-focused role standing in for those corrosion-focused elements.
That makes 8NA the highest proof-load option in this specific line of grades — nitrogen alloying provides one increment of strength above plain Grade 8, and cold working adds a further, genuinely additive increment on top of that, without requiring either a different base alloy or accepting the trade-offs that come with grades like 8F.
Because Grade 8N itself is a genuinely less common designation, and 8NA is its strain-hardened derivative, we recommend confirming the exact base alloy and proof-load requirement against the current ASTM A194 standard text or your project specification before finalizing an order — the same caution that applies to our Grade 8N and 8P pages applies here as well.
Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. exports to over 50 countries, and we’re glad to manufacture to this specification once the exact composition and property requirements are confirmed, verified under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
An Honest Note on This Specific Grade
Grade 8NA inherits the same specificity as its Grade 8N baseline — a considerably less commonly specified designation than our core Grade 8, 8M, and 8C family, with limited published reference material on its precise base alloy. We manufacture to this specification when a customer provides the exact composition and property requirements — either from the current ASTM A194 standard text or a project-specific data sheet — rather than relying on general description alone. If you’re specifying this grade, please share the governing document with your inquiry so we can confirm manufacturability accurately.
