ASTM A194
Grade 8T
Stainless Steel Nuts
Titanium vs Niobium Stabilization
Grade 8T and Grade 8C both exist to solve the same underlying problem — sensitization, the loss of corrosion resistance at grain boundaries caused by chromium carbide precipitation during and after high-temperature welding. Both grades stabilize against that failure mode by adding an element that preferentially forms carbides instead of letting chromium do it — the difference is which element.
Grade 8T uses titanium; Grade 8C uses niobium — both are genuine, effective stabilizers, and both have long, well-established service histories in their respective base alloys (321 and 347). Titanium-stabilized 321 has a particularly strong historical presence in aerospace and exhaust system applications, where its specific combination of properties made it the preferred choice for decades before some of those roles shifted toward niobium-stabilized alternatives for certain sustained very-high-temperature services.
Choosing between 8T and 8C in a modern application usually comes down to project specification, industry convention, or a specific property nuance rather than one being categorically better — if your project or governing standard specifies one by name, that’s the correct starting point; if you’re specifying fresh, we’re glad to discuss which stabilizer better fits your exact service temperature and welding profile.
Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. exports to over 50 countries, and our Grade 8T nut range is verified by chemical composition and mechanical testing under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
