What Is a DIN 128 B Split Spring Washers, Waved Form B
DIN 128 covers two washer profiles under the same standard, distinguished as Form A and Form B. Form A is a plain curved washer, similar in function to a DIN 137 A curved spring washer — a single smooth curve that flattens under torque and retains spring tension. Form B takes the same split-ring construction but twists it, so the washer no longer sits as a simple dome but as a slightly warped ring with two distinct high points on opposite sides.
That twist matters mechanically. As the fastener is tightened, the two twisted edges bear against the mating surfaces at an angle rather than flat, creating a small amount of genuine mechanical bite into both the underside of the nut and the bearing surface beneath — on top of whatever spring tension the washer retains at final torque. That combination of spring force and edge bite is why Form B is often specified in preference to Form A where a slightly stronger resistance to loosening is wanted from the same basic washer category.
