IATF 16949 is the automotive industry’s own quality management standard, built specifically on top of ISO 9001 rather than replacing it — it adds automotive-specific requirements around defect prevention, variation reduction, and supply chain traceability that general ISO 9001:2015 alone does not cover. The most significant of these is PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) — a structured submission package proving a specific part, made on specific tooling, meets the customer’s complete specification before regular production shipments begin. This typically includes dimensional inspection reports against every drawing characteristic, material and performance test results, a control plan describing ongoing process monitoring, and process capability data — considerably more detailed than a standard MTC and dimensional report alone.

Batch-level traceability is the second major expectation: the ability to trace any shipped part back to its specific production lot, raw material heat number, and inspection records — supporting rapid, precise containment if an issue is ever identified downstream in an automotive supply chain. DIN Standards — Germany’s Own System, and Ours

DIN — Deutsches Institut für Normung, the German Institute for Standardization — is the origin of the dimensional standard system referenced throughout the majority of our own product range: DIN 931/933 for standard hex bolts, DIN 934 for hex nuts, DIN 125 for flat washers, and dozens of other specialty fastener standards across our site. This isn’t incidental — DIN has historically been, and in large part remains, the practical reference framework fastener buyers in the German market expect by default.

Many DIN fastener standards have, over recent decades, been formally harmonised with their ISO equivalents — for example, DIN 931 corresponds closely to ISO 4014, and the current designation is often written as DIN EN ISO 4014, reflecting German national adoption of the international standard while retaining the DIN reference numbering many buyers still use in daily practice. In some cases, the original DIN standard has been formally withdrawn in favour of the ISO equivalent; in others, the DIN designation continues in parallel use.

Practically, this means specifying against a DIN number to us is understood immediately, not treated as a translation exercise — we manufacture and dimensionally verify against the DIN reference (or its current DIN EN ISO equivalent) as a primary specification, not a secondary cross-reference to an ISO number.
