ASTM A182
Grade F12
Forged Flanges & Fittings

Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai — ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer and exporter of ASTM A182 Grade F12 forged alloy steel flanges, fittings, and valve components. Grade F12 is a 1% chromium, 0.5% molybdenum low-alloy steel — a leaner alloy content than Grade F11 and Grade F22, positioned for moderate elevated-temperature service where full 1.25% or 2.25% chromium content isn’t required, but plain carbon steel’s temperature range has been exceeded.

A Deliberate Middle Step in the Chromium-Molybdenum Ladder

Grade F12 vs F11 vs F22

ASTM A182’s chromium-molybdenum forging grades form a genuine, graduated ladder — Grade F1 starts as plain carbon-molybdenum steel with no chromium at all, Grade F12 adds a modest 1% chromium alongside 0.5% molybdenum, Grade F11 steps up to 1.25% chromium and the same 0.5% molybdenum, and Grade F22 reaches 2.25% chromium with a full 1% molybdenum. Each step genuinely buys more oxidation resistance and creep strength at correspondingly higher material cost.

Grade F12 occupies a real, if narrower, niche within that ladder — projects that have determined plain carbon-molybdenum (Grade F1) isn’t quite sufficient for their service temperature, but that don’t need Grade F11’s slightly higher chromium content or F22’s substantially higher chromium and molybdenum, will specify F12 as the appropriately-sized answer rather than over-specifying alloy content the service doesn’t require.

In current practice, Grade F11 is considerably more commonly stocked and specified than Grade F12 — many projects that could technically use either grade default to F11 given its wider availability and more common specification history, but F12 remains a valid, standard-recognized option, particularly where a project’s specific service temperature and material data sheet call for it by name.

Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. exports to over 50 countries, and our Grade F12 flanges and forged fittings are manufactured and verified by chemical composition and mechanical testing under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.

A Note on Product Scope

ASTM A182 covers forged flanges, fittings, valves, and similar forged pressure-part components — it does not govern nuts or stud bolts, which fall under ASTM A194 and ASTM A193 respectively. If your requirement is for matching stud bolts to pair with F12 flanges, our carbon and alloy steel ASTM A193/A194 grades are the relevant fastener specifications — please let us know if you’d like both quoted together.

Why Buyers Specify Grade F12

Where This Grade Genuinely Applies

Correctly-Sized Alloy Content

1% chromium delivers a genuine, appropriate step above carbon-molybdenum Grade F1.

Moderate Creep Strength

Molybdenum content genuinely improves resistance to gradual deformation under sustained load and heat.

Standard-Recognized Grade

A legitimate, current ASTM A182 designation, though less commonly stocked than Grade F11.

Verified Mechanical Properties

Batch testing confirms genuine chromium and molybdenum content and mechanical properties.
