ASTM A182
Grade F22
Forged Flanges & Fittings
Why Grade F22 for High Temperature
ASTM A182 governs forged and rolled alloy and stainless steel pipe flanges, forged fittings, and valve components — a genuinely different product category from the A194 nuts and A193 stud bolts covered elsewhere on our site, though both exist to serve the same demanding high-temperature, high-pressure piping systems. Grade F22 is one of A182’s most established and widely used grades, defined by its 2.25% chromium, 1% molybdenum composition.
Chromium and molybdenum together deliver two genuine, well-documented benefits at sustained high temperature — chromium contributes to oxidation resistance and to resistance against hydrogen attack (a specific degradation mechanism in high-temperature, high-pressure hydrogen service where hydrogen can react with carbon in the steel and cause decarburization and cracking), while molybdenum improves creep strength, helping the forging resist gradual, permanent deformation under sustained load and heat.
Grade F22 sits at a well-established position in the alloy steel forging family — richer in alloy content than the leaner F1 and F5 grades, and a common, standard choice specifically where hydrogen attack resistance genuinely matters, such as refinery hydroprocessing units, alongside general high-temperature steam and process piping service.
Akbar Fasteners Pvt. Ltd. exports to over 50 countries, and our Grade F22 flanges and forged fittings are manufactured and verified by chemical composition and mechanical testing under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
A Note on Product Scope
ASTM A182 covers forged flanges, fittings, valves, and similar forged pressure-part components — it does not govern nuts or stud bolts, which fall under ASTM A194 and ASTM A193 respectively. If your requirement is for the matching stud bolts to pair with F22 flanges, our high-temperature ASTM A193/A194 chromium-molybdenum grades (such as Grade 7 and Grade 16) are the relevant fastener specifications — please let us know if you’d like both quoted together.
Where This Grade Genuinely Applies
Genuine Hydrogen Attack Resistance
Chromium content resists high-temperature, high-pressure hydrogen-induced decarburization.
Genuine Creep Strength
Molybdenum content improves resistance to gradual deformation under sustained heat and load.
Well-Established, Widely Available
One of the most common alloy steel forging grades, with broad industry stocking and familiarity.
Verified Mechanical Properties
Batch testing confirms genuine chromium and molybdenum content and mechanical properties.
