That’s the core reason this specification splits into Type I and Type II rather than offering one universal nut — Type I uses a nylon insert that provides excellent locking friction but has a genuine upper temperature limit around 250°F before the material begins to degrade, while Type II abandons the nylon entirely in favor of an all-metal deformed-thread locking feature rated to 450°F for hotter zones where nylon simply wouldn’t survive.
